5th Axis Fixtures

5th Axis Positioning Fixtures

5th-axis positioning fixtures are specialized fixtures designed for five-axis CNC machine tools, used to precisely position and securely clamp workpieces. Their core function is to ensure that workpieces do not move during multi-directional cutting (X, Y, and Z axis translation + A and C axis rotation), while also preventing interference between the fixture itself and the machine spindle or tool, thereby ensuring machining accuracy and efficiency.

Key Features

- High-Precision Positioning: Typically utilizing a zero-point positioning system and precision datum blocks, positioning accuracy can reach 0.005mm, meeting the stringent dimensional accuracy requirements of five-axis machining.

- High-Rigidity Clamping: Utilizing high-strength materials (such as 45# steel and hardened aluminum alloys), combined with hydraulic/pneumatic clamping and mechanical locking, these fixtures prevent workpiece vibration during high-speed cutting or machining complex angles.

- Anti-Interference Design: The fixture's compact structure avoids the range of motion of the five-axis machine tool's rotational axes. Some fixtures feature modular design, allowing for height or angle adjustments to accommodate workpieces of varying shapes (such as irregularly shaped or curved surfaces). - Versatility and Modularity: These fixtures often utilize standardized interfaces (such as D100 and D150 positioning plates), enabling quick replacement of fixture modules to accommodate a wide range of workpiece types and reducing changeover time.

Common Types

1. Zero-Point Positioning Fixtures: These fixtures utilize standardized zero-point connectors (such as ball plungers and tapered positioning pins) to enable one-click workpiece changeovers. They offer fast positioning and high precision, making them suitable for high-volume, multi-product machining.

2. Self-Centering Fixtures: These fixtures utilize a linkage mechanism to automatically center the workpiece (such as three-jaw and four-jaw chucks). They are suitable for round and symmetrical workpieces (such as shafts and discs).

3. Modular Combination Fixtures: These fixtures consist of a combination of standard components, including a base plate, support blocks, and clamping units. These fixtures can be flexibly assembled to suit the workpiece shape, making them suitable for irregular and large workpieces (such as aerospace components).

Application Scenarios

This product is primarily used in the machining of high-precision, complex structural parts in applications such as aerospace (engine blades and casings), automotive (mold cavities and transmission components), medical devices (artificial joints and precision instruments), and high-end molds (molds with complex curved surfaces).
